Apps to Help You Sleep?
Each month I try to give you some apps that apply to the “problem of the month.” I searched a couple of sites and found claims for the “BEST” apps to help you sleep. Most these apps, I’ve noticed, are centered on relaxing sounds or tracking options that will give you information about the quality and quantity of your sleep. That’s all well and good, but none of these apps really address the habits that lead to the main culprit of insomnia, which is conditioned arousal (see my previous post about conditioned arousal here: http://legacycounselingservice.com/are-you-accidentally-causing-your-insomnia/).
There does appear to be one app available that fits the bill: SleepRate – Total Sleep Therapy (https://www.sleeprate.com/about/). This app is impressive with its use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia principles, extensive understanding of the physiological systems involved in sleep, tracking mechanisms, and personalized feedback/recommendation tool. I’m not sure how it stacks up against one-on-one, personal therapy using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for insomnia, but it might be worth checking out. If you do check it out, please let me know what you think of it by commenting below, sending me an email at Dr.Leedy@legacycounselingservice.com, or calling me at 539-777-1129.
