How Do I Use Out-of-Network Insurance Benefits for Therapy?

We DO take insurance: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Community Care of Oklahoma (some plans excluded), HealthChoice, Multiplan, Alliance Coal Group, and we file out-of-network claims (except Medicaid or Medicare) on behalf of our clients.

If clients choose to use their out-of-network (OON) insurance benefits for our counseling services clients pay for therapy services when they are provided. We then provide those clients with a billing invoice that has the information your insurance company will need to consider reimbursement.

Submitting your invoice for out-of-networking reimbursement is usually not a difficult process and most companies will send you a reimbursement check within 8-14 days. Further, most insurance companies offer 50-75% reimbursement, but you should call your insurance company to determine what your specific out-of-network benefits for counseling are.

Question to ask your insurance company about mental health (sometimes called Behavioral Health) benefits are:

  • What are my out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health?
  • Is pre-authorization required?
  • How many sessions do I get under this benefit?
  • Is Dr. Melissa Leedy, Ph.D. (NPI #: 1194962720) an acceptable psychologist for this benefit?
  • Is Patricia (Patti) Trammell, LCSW (NPI #: 1568695443) an acceptable counselor for this benefit?
  • Is Theodore (Ted) Robinson, LPC (NPI #: 1568658011) an acceptable counselor for this benefit?
  • Is Saundra (Sandy) Stone, LPC (NPI #: 1114238862) an acceptable counselor for this benefit?
  • Is Kimberly Hamilton, LMFT-S (NPI #: 1356538979) an acceptable counselor for this benefit?
  • Is April Reeder, LPC (NPI #: 1346520509) an acceptable counselor for this benefit?
  • Is Christina Parks, LPC-S (NPI #: 1154767572) an acceptable counselor for this benefit?
  • What is the deductible?
  • What is the policy year?
  • How much of the deductible has been met this year to date?
  • What is the co-pay once the deductible has been met?
  • Will the insurance company reimburse me (the client) once the deductible has been met?
  • To what address should the bill be sent should I decide to ask for reimbursement?

Do I have to be a Christian to receive therapy at Legacy Counseling Service in Tulsa?

Not at all. At Legacy Counseling Service we provide therapy to clients of all, or no, faith orientations throughout the Tulsa area. We feel very comfortable and confident in working with people who don’t subscribe to any particular spiritual orientation. And, of those people who do identify themselves as Christian, many don’t participate in organized religion but they do believe that their beliefs and relationship with God/Jesus is a significant factor in how they “do life.”

Regardless of faith orientation, our goal is to help you make improvements in all areas of your life, not impose our beliefs or worldview on you, but it is important to us that you know about our values and worldview so you can make the best decision about who you choose to help you. If your Christian faith is an important aspect of helping you grow then we can certainly bring that into our sessions, in addition to evidence-based therapy techniques.

How Long Will I be in Counseling?

This depends on many factors, including your history, but most people can expect to be in treatment 10-20 sessions. Usually, therapy is weekly for the first 3-5 appointments and then oftentimes we can move to every 2-3 weeks, depending on your progress and what we are working on. Insomnia treatment is typically completed in 6-8 sessions.

What Should I Expect in Therapy Sessions?

Once we have a brief discussion to determine if we will be a good fit for treatment, you will register as a new client through the Secure Client Portal. Here you will see office forms to complete, as well as questionnaires about your history and current concerns. Completing these forms will take about 1 hour but you don’t have to complete them in one sitting.

We do ask that you complete all of these forms, however, a few days before your initial appointment so we have plenty of time to review them. We also ask you to consider signing a Release of Information to your medical providers and/or psychiatrist so that we can keep them informed of your progress once we start treatment. During your initial appointment, we will discuss in more depth what’s concerning you now, we will talk about anything significant from the forms you completed, and we may even be able to discuss a plan to help you feel better, although sometimes it takes two or even three sessions to determine a plan together. Once we’ve determined what and how we want to tackle things treatment will begin!
