Unfortunately, I’m not currently accepting new, individual clients at this time, although registrations are open for the Virtual Chronic Pain/Illness Group that I am facilitating. You can learn more about the group here: https://legacycounselingservices.com/counseling-for-chronic-pain-and-illness/. Please also review the information about the other wonderful and skilled therapists at Legacy Counseling Services on the Affiliated Therapist Tab on the home page.
Through counseling, you will learn to overcome challenges, discover your true self, and bounce back from hard situations. You will find out what’s really important to you and begin to make intentional choices towards those things, rather than being dictated by fear or hopelessness. You will develop the courage to make choices consistent with your goals…it will be an honor to help you get to this point. The goal of therapy is not to be happy all the time. Weird, I know. The goal of therapy is to be genuine. The goal is to allow yourself to feel the good and the bad feelings while being respectful of yourself and other people, and moving towards a more fulfilling, meaningful life. To help you reach your goals, I use a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I work with men and women who are over 25 years old.
Whether you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, insomnia, or health problems for a long time or only more recently, I’ve had extensive experience counseling adults who are struggling to feel better and get back into their lives. Whether you are a veteran, middle-aged, or an older adult; whether you have a visible, or invisible, health condition, whether your heart is broken from a trauma, or from the death of a loved one, I believe you are worthy of investment. I believe that a common denominator for all of us, as part of the human race, is that everyone has worth, regardless of their past or current story. I truly believe that. It’s powerful to watch someone transition, as a result of the work we do in therapy, from feeling imprisoned to believing that they are truly valuable and capable of being empowered.
You have a story that has shaped how you live your life. Even if you are stuck, I believe you have the capacity to make changes; you might just need to find motivation, let go of some hurts, let go of shame, or learn new skills. I can help you do that. I love helping people who are ready to start making changes to their stories! You can come in for face-to-face counseling or we can discuss if secure online counseling is an option for you due to your health, distance, comfort, or other reasons.
Dr. Leedy’s Counseling Credentials

Dr. Melissa J. Leedy, Ph.D.
Read more about my specific training and work experiences as a psychologist. On a more personal note, I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I strive to live a life reflective of His loving character. Just like all of us, I’m constantly in need of His grace. I am involved in my church community and believe that healing, even in the counseling room, ultimately comes through the power of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. If a Christian perspective is important to you I am happy to incorporate it into therapy and you can read about that here
